Deadly Make Up

April 14, 2009
Hey all.

Everyone knows that beauty products contain chemicals - that's what makes them work! But did you know that there are many ingredients in your cosmetics that are actually regarded as toxic chemicals, and have been proven to cause irritations and even cancer. Below is a list of ingredients that you should really try to avoid in beauty products.

Phenoexyethanol: This is definitely one of the worst. This chemical is found in many different beauty products, from hair styling products to moisturizers. Phenoexyethanol is a known irritant, and can also affect the nervous system. It has been proven to cause cancer in lab rats

Diethanolamine (DEA): This chemical can cause skin and eye irritations, as well as causing cancer in lab rats.

Triethanolamine (TEA)
: This is mainly found in shampoos etc, it is highly irritable and is toxic to lab animals. When TEA is mixed with nitrates it can cause cancer.

Parabens (Ethyl, Butyl, Methyl, Propyl): Are used in over 75% of beauty products so are very hard to avoid. They can cause rashes, and again are also known to cause cancer.

Isopropyl Mystriate: Cancer causing, not found in many products as it is deemed to be so toxic.

DMDM Hydation, Diazoildinyl Urea, Imidazolidinyl Urea: All (in certain conditions) can release formaldahyde

PVP/PA Copolymer: Used in hair spray, when ingested by rats was shown to cause cancerous tumors. DO NOT inhale

FD&C and D&C Dyes: The colours used in cosmetics. Again cause cancer.

Although it may seem difficult its important to avoid these chemicals as much as possible. Many of them are being reassessed to see whether they should actually be allowed to be used in beauty preparations.

Till next time!

To Wash or Not To Wash?

April 14, 2009
Hey all!

For years people have argued over how often you should wash your hair. It's been said that washing your hair everyday strips your hair of its natural oils, and can therefore damage and dry your hair. Other people say how important it is to wash your hair every day to reduce product build up, and to keep your locks in tip-top condition.

It's definitely a personal thing. I know someone who washes their hair only every 2-3 days. Her hair always looks gorgeous and shiny - never limp or gre...

Side Pony's... The Hottest New Hair Look!

April 6, 2009
Hi all!

Okay, a few years ago this style would have been deemed "geeky", however at the moment the side pony seems to be one of the hottest new hair styles, especially on the runway!
In the Spring 2009 Naeem Khan runway show, side ponys were taken to the extreme - high, and well and truly to the side!

To recreate this style, you need to wash your hair, and use a little straightening product. (I like Garnier Smoothing Milk, $9.95).
Part your hair to one side just above the ear. Using a hair drye...
